In this message I want to begin with a quote from one of today’s favorite “pastors”. But, to be fair this could come from just about any of today’s “pastors”. Because sadly they pretty much all teach the same view regarding sanctification.

“Salvation is coming to Christ; sanctification is growing in Christ. Salvation happens in a moment, bringing a sinner from spiritual death to life; sanctification is an ongoing process. Salvation is being forgiven of the past; sanctification is breaking free from the power of sin. This is something God does in our lives, and it never stops until we get to Heaven.”

The Roman Epistle 1-8, Distinction between Justification ...

Is this Biblical? Does sanctification take the rest of our lives? The Biblical answer to this is an unequivocal no. Because Paul taught that sanctification is something that happens instantaneously to our salvation in 1Cor.6:11 saying, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” So according to Paul when we say yes to Jesus we are free from sin. It has no hold over us that we must perform as it dictates or think constantly about it or it’s being avoided.

But, the real truth that none of these “pastors” or “teachers” have come to realize, is that we have always been free from sin since Jesus came. Whether one is a Jew or Gentile or even a believer or unbeliever. Because Paul never taught that slavery to sin is the practice of it, Jesus did. But, His teaching was for Israelites who were under the law. Not for those who are delivered from sin by being delivered from the law as Israelites are to be today. Paul taught that slavery to sin is to be under the law. A perfect example of this is where in 1Cor.15:56 Paul wrote that “The strength of sin is the law”. Please refer to my earlier video for greater detail in this at https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=zY19VDdllg0. But, suffice it to say that the only way for someone to be a slave to sin is to be of the mindset that you must keep the law given through Moses or some degree of that. If that notion is not conquered and removed from your mind then you will always be a slave to sin. Your conscience will never be free from the tentacles of sin that grope at you. It’s claws will always be at your throat. Because the strength of sin is the law.

So if while a man is of the notion that he must keep the law, and at the same time tries to be a follower of Paul’s gospel, he will find himself a slave to sin as surely as any Israelite was that was in that covenant. The Old Covenant given to Israel through Moses and Abraham. And in that covenant there is no freedom from sin. Heb.10:1-3 shows us exactly this when it says,

“For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.”

Do you see what this passage is saying? It is telling you that as long as you are under the law you can never be made perfect. Why? Because when the worshipper is once purged they should have no more consciousness of sins. But, is that true for the person today who believes that sanctification is an ongoing process that will take their whole life? No. Because that person is constantly conscious of sin. It runs their whole life even when they are not participating in it.

Jesus Wallpapers With Bible Verses - Wallpaper Cave

For example, when the person who believes sanctification is an ongoing process reads 1John1:9 they think to themselves that this is something that must be done continually for their whole lives. Why? Because they do not believe 1John1:9 as it reads. But, have instead believed the false doctrines of sin nature and original sin that forces them to make sanctification an ongoing process so that they must return over and over again for forgiveness as long as they live. The Roman Catholics who first adopted this abomination created “confessionals” for this purpose. And the “protestants” are just as wrong in their beliefs because rather than the confessional and it’s priests, they simply make it necessary to go to Jesus over and over again for forgiveness.

But, these are all doing just as the Israelites did by their offerings year after year. And these offerings of confession over and over again are no more able to make the worshipper perfect than those Israel did under the law. Why? Because if the worshipper had been made perfect Hebrews says “then would the offerings/confessions have ceased”. But, this “offering” continues in churchianity because they have placed themselves under the law every bit as much as any Israelite who lived before Jesus came was.

So Paul is teaching that for the worshipper to be truly free from sin they must be free from the law with it’s constant demands for confession. As long as they are of the thinking that freedom from sin, sanctification, is an ongoing process they will never be free from it. Because that thinking comes from their being under the law. And while under the law and at the same time trying to be joined with Christ they will be as the man Paul described in Rom.7. A man Paul called a “wretch” because he could not be free from the law and it’s constant reminder of sin. Not the participation in sinful acts. But, it’s constantly being in their thoughts even if only as something to be avoided.

In Rom.7 Paul says that he is speaking to them who know the law. So these are Israelites. He then tells them that the law says a woman who has a husband is bound to her husband by the law. If he is dead she is free from the law of her husband to marry another. But, as long as he lives she is not. Paul then says that this is exactly what must happen for the Israelite to be free to be joined with Christ. The first husband, the law, must be dead so that she can be joined with Christ.

In the rest of the chapter Paul describes what happens to the man who remains under the law while trying to be joined with Christ at the same time. The law becomes an idol to them. It is placed between them and God as the means to show that they are loving Him. So instead of Christ being the mediator as Paul says He is in 2Tim.2:5, the law is. Paul refers to this in his teaching in Rom.7 saying, “Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.” This sin is not the violation of the law, but their deification of it. It is their idolatry of the law. It is sin because by placing all of their focus on what the law says instead of being joined with Christ they have missed Christ. Because sin is to miss the mark. And the mark they miss is Jesus because they have placed the law between Jesus and themselves.

So that when they should be living by the leading of the Holy Spirit, they are instead living by the leading of the law of sin and death just as Israel did in the Old Covenant. Something that Paul says they are delivered from by the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus in Rom.8:2. Something Paul also refers to in Gal.3:23 saying, “But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.” So the law was not given to lead them to Christ, but to keep guard over them so they would not destroy themselves until Christ came. The law actually shuts one up to the faith of Christ. The faith that delivers from death to life. Something the law could never do because it was only a constant reminder of sin. Making those who were under it slaves to sin.

4 Ways God Will Provide When Unemployed | Finding God in ...

So to be sanctified by faith in Jesus is to be free from sin. It means that one’s conscience is purged from sin so that it’s a constant reminder by constant confession has no more place in them. And it is because these “pastors” and “teachers” have placed themselves under the law, along with those who believe their message, that they can never be free from sin until they die. Because they have never believed in Jesus alone for salvation. But, instead, they have always kept themselves joined to the law so that they are constantly reminded of sin just as Israel was by bringing their sacrifices year by year. And just as these do by returning over and over again to ask forgiveness for sins that were already cleansed if they would have truly believed in Jesus the first time.

This is why John says in 1John1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Once cleansed the worshippers would not continue to offer sacrifice/confession. Which is exactly what these are doing when they believe 1John1:9 is telling them they must return over and over again to receive forgiveness. By believing as they do they have placed themselves under the law and made themselves every bit as much a slave to sin as the Israelites were who were under the law in Moses’ day.

Now I have a question for those who have been under the law. And for those who have never trusted in Jesus before. Will you be free from sin? Will you receive the cleansing once for all that Christ’s sacrifice has provided for you? By being born of His Spirit so you too can inherit eternal life? The fleshly birth only prepared you for this natural world where death reigns. Will you be free from death and sin so that you can inherit God’s kingdom? Will you too be born again by being born of His Spirit? So that as His child you will now have for your inheritance His kingdom that is eternal where there is no death?

If you are reading this God is calling you. He loves you and wants you to know Him. Because knowing Him is this eternal life that provides you with the spirit that makes you God’s child.John17:3. Because while all men are created by God, not all men are born of His Spirit so that they are children of God. It is only those who have come to know Him that are spiritual because knowing Him is to be born of His Spirit. So if you do not know Him, but have now believed that He is Lord and that He has raised from the dead to conquer death for you, then please take the time right now to talk to Him and confess to Jesus that He is Lord of your life. And believe that He has raised from the dead to conquer death for you. If you do believe in Him then tell Him something like this and you will have eternal life:

Dear Jesus, I believe you. Thank you for joining with me in death so that by conquering death by your resurrection I could join with you in eternal life. Thank you that you raised from the dead so that I could raise from the dead too by trusting in, clinging to, and relying solely on you. Thank you for giving me a new spirit now Lord so that I can live with you in your kingdom forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

By praying a prayer similar to this one and really meaning it from your heart you have been saved from death to life. From sin to righteousness. And from wrath to peace with God. And now as you begin reading the Bible and believing what it plainly says it will begin to change the way you think and believe. Because when you trust in Jesus you leave the old life behind where you were only able to relate to and trust in what has been made. And now will be equipped for God’s kingdom because you are no longer only natural flesh and blood, but are a new creature made a spiritual being ready to inherit God’s spiritual kingdom. It is because of Jesus’ resurrection that He is the only WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. Because only Jesus has broken through the wall of death that the flesh and blood natural body can never get through. And only by the new birth are we made ready to receive the spiritual body that can go through the wall of death as Jesus’ did first so we could follow Him in the way He has prepared for us.

God Bless you in your new life in Christ.

The Lord’s prayer states that we are to ask for forgiveness of our sins Luke 11:2-4. This prayer or a likeness of it is a template for how to pray. Since we pray often and are not perfect and therefore sin, this seems reasonable to me. How do you reconcile this with your message?
